According to PIB, In a significant diplomatic move, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi's recent visit to India culminated in a crucial meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, yesterday. This meeting is seen as a key step in strengthening the India-China relationship, which has been on a positive trajectory since the two leaders met in Kazan last year.
Mr. Wang, who also serves as a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China, delivered a personal message and invitation from President Xi Jinping to PM Modi for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin. PM Modi graciously accepted the invitation, expressing his support for China's presidency of the summit and stating he looks forward to meeting President Xi again.
The meeting wasn't just about pleasantries. PM Modi made it a point to emphasize the importance of maintaining peace and tranquillity along the border. He reiterated India's firm commitment to finding a "fair, reasonable, and mutually acceptable" solution to the long-standing boundary question. This signals that while India is open to improving ties, it will not compromise on its core security interests.
The progress in bilateral relations was also a key talking point. Both sides noted the positive momentum, citing mutual respect and sensitivity as guiding principles. A notable positive development mentioned was the resumption of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra, a pilgrimage deeply important to many Indians. This small but significant step shows a willingness on both sides to rebuild trust and facilitate people-to-people exchanges.
The meeting also touched upon the positive outcomes of the bilateral discussions between Mr. Wang Yi and External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, as well as the 24th Meeting of the Special Representatives, which he co-chaired with National Security Advisor Shri Ajit Doval. This layered engagement across various levels of government indicates a comprehensive approach to managing the complex relationship.
