NEW DELHI / MUMBAI — In a strategic move to boost financial inclusion and streamline investor onboarding across rural and Tier-2/Tier-3 regions, India Post and UTI Mutual Fund have officially renewed and expanded their long-standing strategic collaboration. Under the renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the Department of Posts will leverage its vast, nationwide last-mile network to deliver doorstep Know Your Customer (KYC) verification for mutual fund investors.

The agreement was formally executed at the corporate headquarters of UTI Asset Management Company (AMC) Limited in Mumbai by Shri Adnan Ahmed, Chief General Manager (Parcel & CCS Directorate, Department of Posts), and Shri Vetri Subramaniam, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of UTI AMC.

Key Highlights of the Expanded Collaboration

  • Doorstep KYC Access: Postal personnel will assist investors directly at their homes, eliminating the need for rural and semi-urban residents to travel long distances to physical AMC branches.
  • Pan-India Coverage: The initiative specifically targets remote, underserved, and rural geographies where digital verification infrastructure or branch density remains limited.
  • Building on Remediation: The new project expands upon previous joint KYC remediation drives, which successfully helped investors resolve documentation gaps, update pending compliance records, and keep investment accounts operational.
  • Full Regulatory Compliance: Facilitates smooth compliance with applicable Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) guidelines through trusted physical verification.

Bridging the Last-Mile Gap in Mutual Fund Investing

While digital onboarding tools have accelerated mutual fund adoption across urban India, physical verification and documentation gaps remain major friction points for first-time or rural investors. India Post’s extensive network—comprising over 150,000 post offices and a deeply trusted doorstep delivery workforce—provides an ideal bridge.

Industry Impact: "By pairing UTI AMC’s investment management expertise with India Post's unmatched physical footprint, this initiative directly addresses document verification bottlenecks. It ensures uninterrupted access to wealth-building products for millions of household investors who were previously left out of formal financial channels."
