INS Ikshak Commissioned: India’s New Hydrographic Sentinel Sets Sail from Kochi

INS Ikshak: A Technological Marvel Anchored in Self-Reliance
In a landmark moment for India’s naval capabilities, the Indian Navy commissioned INS Ikshak on 6 November 2025 at Naval Base Kochi, with Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, officiating the ceremony. This vessel is the third in the Survey Vessel (Large) [SVL] class and the first to be stationed at the Southern Naval Command, enhancing India’s hydrographic survey infrastructure.
Built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd., Kolkata, INS Ikshak is a testament to India’s growing prowess in indigenous shipbuilding. With over 80% indigenous components, it reflects the spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and the collaborative strength of Indian MSMEs.

- Primary Role: Conducting coastal and deep-water hydrographic surveys of ports, harbours, and navigational channels.
