NHRC Concludes 3rd Online Internship Programme 2025 with 74 Students from Across 21 States


The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India wrapped up its prestigious 3rd Online Short-Term Internship 2025–26, empowering 74 university students from 21 States and UTs through expert-led sessions, virtual field visits, and hands-on learning on human rights, justice, and constitutional values.


NHRC Internship 2025: Empowering Young Voices for Justice


In a significant step towards youth engagement in social justice, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India successfully concluded its 3rd Online Short-Term Internship Programme (OSTI) for the 2025-26 academic session.

The two-week immersive internship, launched on August 22, 2025, saw 74 bright university students from 21 States and Union Territories participate in a learning journey focused on human rights advocacy, institutional practices, and field-level realities.

Inspiring Closing Ceremony Led by NHRC Leaders


At the valedictory session, NHRC Member Smt Vijaya Bharathi Sayani addressed the interns as the Chief Guest, applauding their active participation and passion for justice.

“You are now ambassadors of human rights. Use this knowledge not only in your careers but in your everyday life to uplift others and stand against injustice,” she urged.

She emphasized NHRC’s critical role in upholding rights related to:

  • Women’s protection

  • Child welfare

  • Mental health care

  • Custodial and prison justice

  • Empowerment of marginalized communities

She called upon the youth to become vigilant citizens, to challenge inequality, and to defend human dignity in every walk of life.

Internship Highlights & Learning Modules

Joint Secretary Smt Saidingpuii Chhakchhuak presented the official internship report, showcasing the diverse topics covered, including:

Fundamentals of Human Rights in India & International Law


Interactive sessions with NHRC Members, domain experts, and civil society leaders

Workshops on psychology, forensic science, and business & human rights

Virtual exposure visits to:

  • Tihar Jail

  • A Delhi Police Station

  • Asha Kiran Shelter Home for the mentally challenged

These experiences offered interns a first-hand look at institutional mechanisms, the challenges faced by vulnerable communities, and the importance of constitutional values in practice.

Competitions & Recognition


To engage interns further, NHRC hosted creative and analytical competitions:

  • Book Review Challenge

  • Group Research Project Presentations

  • Declamation Contest

Winners were recognized during the valedictory session for their outstanding contributions and ideas.
