Trump Slams NATO for Buying Russian Oil, Urges Tougher Sanctions to End Ukraine War

Former US President Donald Trump criticises NATO countries for buying Russian oil during the Ukraine war and urges stronger sanctions, even suggesting high tariffs on China to pressure Moscow.

Donald Trump Hits Out at Europe for Buying Russian Oil, Calls for Tougher NATO Sanctions

Former US President Donald Trump has once again taken a tough stand on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, this time criticising European countries for continuing to buy oil from Russia, even as the conflict rages on. Trump called the current sanctions by NATO allies "not tough enough" and urged them to take stronger steps alongside the United States.

Europe is buying oil from Russia. I don’t want them to buy oil. The sanctions they’re putting on are not strong enough,” Trump said while addressing reporters.

He stated that the United States is ready to impose harsher sanctions, but only if Europe acts in a way that matches Washington’s efforts.

I’m willing to do sanctions, but they have to toughen up their sanctions too. Right now, they’re just talking. They’re not doing. And they’re still buying a lot of oil from Russia,” Trump added.

Trump Questions NATO's Unity

Trump, who recently met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, warned that NATO’s oil trade with Russia weakens its bargaining power against Moscow. He described the act as “shocking” and said that such moves hurt the collective pressure needed to stop Russia's war actions.

He further said, “I’m ready to go when you are. Just say when.”

Tariffs on China Suggested

In a surprising addition to his sanctions pitch, Trump also proposed that NATO should impose 50% to 100% tariffs on China, to be lifted only once the Russia-Ukraine war ends.

China has a strong grip over Russia. These powerful tariffs will break that grip,” Trump stated, claiming it would help bring the war to a quick end.

He believes that if NATO follows his strategy, the war could be over swiftly.

If the 32 NATO countries do as I say, the war will end quickly. If not, it’s a waste of my time,” Trump concluded.
