PM Modi’s Govt Sends Teams to Assess Damage and Aid Flood-Hit States

PM Modi’s government stands united with flood-hit states, sending teams to assess damage and support recovery efforts.

New Delhi, August 31, 2025 - Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Central Government is working hand-in-hand with states affected by devastating natural calamities, including floods, landslides, and cloudbursts. This coordinated effort aims to relieve the hardships faced by the people in these regions and restore normalcy as soon as possible.

In response to the recent severe monsoon rains and their devastating impacts, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), under the direction of Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, has set up Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) to assess the damage in flood-affected areas. These teams will visit Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir—states that have experienced heavy rainfall and flash floods this monsoon.

The Role of the IMCTs

The IMCTs are tasked with conducting on-the-ground assessments to gauge the extent of the damage caused by flooding, landslides, and cloudbursts. These teams will also evaluate the relief work currently being carried out by the state governments to ensure that effective aid is provided to affected communities. Each team is led by a senior officer at the Joint Secretary level from the MHA or NDMA (National Disaster Management Authority), with representation from various central government ministries including Agriculture, Jal Shakti, Power, Road Transport, and Rural Development.

Immediate Relief & Assistance

In addition to deploying these assessment teams, the MHA has been in constant communication with senior officers in the affected states and union territories. Logistical support has been provided through the deployment of NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) teams, along with Army personnel and Air Force helicopters. These forces are actively engaged in search-and-rescue operations and assisting in restoring essential services such as power and roads.

Since 2019, the government has had a protocol in place to deploy IMCTs right after a major disaster, ensuring rapid on-site damage assessment and quicker relief without waiting for formal damage reports. Based on the findings of the IMCTs, the Central Government is ready to release additional funds from the National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF) to help states recover.

Financial Support for Affected States

For the current fiscal year (2025-26), the government has already disbursed significant amounts to various states:

  • Rs. 10,498.80 crore has been released to 24 states from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to help them provide immediate relief to their citizens.

  • Rs. 1988.91 crore has been given from the National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF) to 12 states for post-disaster recovery.

  • Rs. 3274.90 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) and Rs. 372.09 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) are also being allocated to enhance disaster preparedness and resilience.

These financial measures are part of the government’s ongoing commitment to ensure that disaster-affected states have the resources they need for relief and rebuilding efforts.

Finally

Prime Minister Modi’s government continues to stand by the people during times of crisis. With strong leadership and swift action, the Central Government, along with state and local authorities, is working tirelessly to alleviate the suffering caused by these natural disasters and ensure that affected communities can recover as soon as possible.
