Government Launches Major Modernization Drive for Akashvani and Doordarshan Kendras Across Bihar


The Indian Government is investing in the modernization of Akashvani and Doordarshan Kendras (DDK) in Bihar under the Broadcasting Infrastructure and Network Development (BIND) scheme, enhancing public broadcasting for millions.


The Indian Government is set to bolster the infrastructure of public broadcasting across the country, with a focus on modernizing Akashvani and Doordarshan Kendras (DDK) in Bihar. The ambitious upgrade is part of the Broadcasting Infrastructure and Network Development (BIND) scheme, which has been allocated a total budget of Rs. 2,539.61 crore for the period 2021–2026.

The initiative aims to enhance the quality and reach of public broadcasting services, with a clear focus on transforming outdated infrastructure into a modern, digital-first network. Among the key upgrades are the digitalization of broadcasting equipment, the replacement of aging systems, and the revamping of both studio and transmitter facilities. The introduction of new technologies and digital workflows will also be pivotal in enhancing efficiency and content delivery.

For Bihar, the government has allocated a significant sum towards these upgrades. Rs. 64.56 crore has been earmarked for the modernization of Akashvani Kendras, while Rs. 4.31 crore will go toward the improvement of Doordarshan Kendras in the state. These investments aim to improve the quality of services provided to the people of Bihar and strengthen the overall broadcasting network.

Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. L. Murugan, confirmed these developments during Lok Sabha session,today, highlighting the importance of this upgrade in enhancing public broadcasting across India.
