Rajnath Singh and Yogi Adityanath Roll Out Brahmos
Mission Aatmanirbhar Bharat Achieved: Lucknow Becomes India's New Missile Powerhouse, Rolls Out First BrahMos

Summary: Lucknow has officially joined India's strategic defence map! In a historic event, Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh and UP CM Shri Yogi Adityanath flagged off the first batch of lethal BrahMos missiles manufactured at a new cutting-edge facility in the city. This marks a giant leap for India's self-reliance, turning Uttar Pradesh into a hub for world-class missile production that will secure the nation and power its economy.
Lucknow, October 18, 2025: The heart of Uttar Pradesh today echoed with the sound of a new, self-reliant India. In a ceremony that marks a paradigm shift in the nation's defence landscape, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath proudly flagged off the first batch of the formidable BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, freshly minted from the state-of-the-art BrahMos Integration and Testing Facility right here in Lucknow.
This isn't just another government project. This is the story of a vision turning into reality at lightning speed. The facility, a cornerstone of the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UPDIC), was inaugurated just five months ago on May 11, 2025. The fact that the first batch of these complex weapon systems is ready for deployment in such a short span is a testament to the efficiency and determination driving India's defence sector.
BrahMos: The "Backbone" of the Forces, Now Made in Lucknow
Speaking with palpable pride, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh transformed the event from a simple flag-off into a powerful declaration of India's strategic autonomy.
"BrahMos is not just a missile; it is the symbol of our rising indigenous capability and the backbone of our Armed Forces," he stated. He detailed the missile's fearsome capabilities-a supersonic speed, pinpoint accuracy, and a powerful warhead-that make it one of the most sought-after missile systems in the world.
But the most powerful statements were strategic. Directly referencing the recent 'Operation Sindoor', Shri Rajnath Singh sent a clear message: "Every inch of Pakistan’s territory is now within the reach of BrahMos. The operation was just a trailer. It has made Pakistan realise what might follow." This firmly places the Lucknow-made missiles at the centre of India's national security doctrine.
The Economic Missile: How BrahMos is Fueling India's Growth
Beyond security, the Raksha Mantri painted a compelling picture of BrahMos as an economic engine. In a major revelation, he announced that the BrahMos team has secured international export contracts worth a staggering Rs. 4,000 crore with two countries in just the last month.
"This is the true identity of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat," he said. "We have transitioned from being a defence importer to a reliable exporter, a 'giver' to the world."
The numbers for the Lucknow unit itself are impressive:
Annual Turnover: Expected to be around Rs. 3,000 crore from the next financial year.
GST Revenue: Projected to be approximately Rs. 500 crore annually for the government.
In a powerful moment that connected defence to public welfare, Dr. Jaytirth R. Joshi, DG of BrahMos, handed a GST cheque of about Rs. 40 crore to CM Yogi Adityanath. The Raksha Mantri eloquently put this into perspective: "With the taxes from just one missile, we can build schools, hospitals, and fund welfare schemes for our people."
Building From the Ground Up: The Call for Indigenous Supply Chains
Showing deep insight into global supply chain vulnerabilities, Shri Rajnath Singh underscored the critical need to indigenise even the smallest components.
"If a foreign company refuses to supply a spare part, your product halts. We must strengthen our MSMEs so much that we don't have to rely on anyone for spare parts-be it advanced seekers or ramjet engines," he urged. He called for a concrete roadmap to fully integrate small entrepreneurs into the defence ecosystem, ensuring that the "Make in India" tag is truly built on an Indian foundation.
Yogi Adityanath: Lucknow Assures India's Safety & Prosperity
Echoing the sentiment, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath thanked PM Narendra Modi and Rajnath Singh for placing Lucknow at the forefront of India's self-reliance movement. He termed the BrahMos the "Missile of Aatmanirbharta" and declared that the weapons rolling out of Lucknow are an iron-clad assurance of the nation's safety and prosperity.
He also shared excellent news on the employment front, revealing that the UPDIC has already generated over 15,000 jobs for the youth across its six nodes, with many more to come.
The leaders also inaugurated the Booster Building and witnessed live demonstrations, getting a first-hand look at the sophisticated processes that bring the BrahMos to life.
With this dispatch, Uttar Pradesh has firmly arrived as a key partner in India's 'Make in India, Make for the World' mission, proving that the nation is not just protecting its borders but also building its future, one missile at a time.
