In a historic move that will transform tax litigation in India, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman officially launched the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) in New Delhi on 24th September 2025.
Described as a milestone moment for India's tax reform journey, GSTAT will serve as the independent, national forum for resolving disputes under the GST law - bringing fairness, clarity, and speed to the appellate process.

The Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) is a statutory body created to handle second-level appeals under India’s GST laws. Prior to GSTAT, taxpayers had to rely on separate appellate mechanisms at the state and central levels, often leading to delays, confusion, and inconsistent decisions.
