India's Big AI Leap: Logo, 8 New Indian AI Models, and Major Initiatives for AI Impact Summit 2026 Unveiled

In a landmark announcement, India's Ministry of Electronics & IT has officially launched the logo and key initiatives for the first-ever India-AI Impact Summit 2026. With a focus on "AI for All," the government unveiled 8 new foundational AI models built for India, a massive network of 570 AI data labs, and an expanded fellowship program for 13,500 scholars, positioning India as a leader in creating responsible and inclusive AI for the world.
New Delhi – India has firmly staked its claim as a rising global AI powerhouse with the official unveiling of the logo and flagship initiatives for the India-AI Impact Summit 2026. The grand reveal was made by the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) on Thursday, setting a clear and ambitious roadmap for the nation's journey in artificial intelligence.
The summit, scheduled for February 19-20, 2026, at the prestigious Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, will be the first of its kind hosted by a Global South nation. It aims to shape a global conversation around AI that is inclusive, sustainable, and beneficial for all of humanity.
A Logo with a Deep Meaning
The official logo for the summit is a beautiful blend of India's heritage and its tech-forward vision. At its heart is the Ashoka Chakra, symbolizing India's commitment to ethical governance and justice. Radiating outwards from this core are neural network patterns, representing AI's power to connect and transform industries, languages, and communities across the globe.
Highlighting the rapid progress, Hon’ble Minister of Electronics & IT, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, remarked, “The India AI mission has made very good progress. Our main goal was to give better computer facilities to a large number of students, researchers. We had a target of 1000 GPUs, and today we are at 38,000 GPUs, which is very good progress.”
Building India's Own AI: 8 New Foundational Models
The cornerstone of the announcement was the launch of eight pioneering projects to build India’s very own foundational AI models. These models will be trained on Indian data, catering to our unique languages and needs. The projects include:
- Avatar AI: Creating specialized 'AI Avatars' for key Indian sectors like agriculture, healthcare, and governance.
- IIT Bombay Consortium – Bharat Gen: Developing a family of powerful open-source AI models to serve diverse fields from finance to education.
- Fractal Analytics Ltd.: Building India’s first large reasoning model, designed for complex problem-solving in science and medicine.
- Tech Mahindra Maker’s Lab: Crafting an efficient model focused on Hindi dialects and a platform for government applications.
- Zenteiq – BrahmAI: A science-focused model aimed at boosting engineering and industrial innovation.
- GenLoop: Creating small, efficient language models-Yukti, Varta, and Kavach-to support all 22 scheduled Indian languages.
- Intellihealth: A unique model designed to analyze EEG signals for early screening of neurological disorders.
- Shodh AI: An AI model dedicated to discovering new materials, speeding up scientific innovation.
- Empowering the Nation: AI Labs and Skilling for All
To democratize AI education, the government has dedicated 30 IndiaAI Data and AI Labs across the country. This is the first step towards a massive network of 570 labs. These labs, set up in partnership with NIELIT and Intel in Tier 2 & 3 cities, will provide foundational training in AI and data skills, ensuring that the AI revolution reaches every corner of India.
"The AI Data Labs are intentionally located across diverse regions, reflecting our approach to inclusive growth... in line with the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of equal access to opportunity," added Shri Vaishnaw.
Investing in Talent: The Expanded IndiaAI Fellowship
In a major boost for students and researchers, the IndiaAI Fellowship Program has been expanded to support 13,500 scholars, including undergraduates, postgraduates, and PhD researchers. What's more, the fellowship is now open to students from all disciplines-not just engineering, but also medicine, law, commerce, and arts. A new digital portal has been launched at fellowship.indiaai.gov.in for easy applications and tracking.
The Guiding Philosophy: Sutras and Chakras
The summit's vision is guided by three simple yet powerful principles or Sutras:
- People: AI must serve humanity and preserve dignity.
- Planet: AI must be resource-efficient and help protect our environment.
- Progress: The benefits of AI must be shared equally by all.
These principles will be put into action through seven thematic areas or Chakras, including Human Capital, Inclusion, Safe & Trusted AI, and Democratizing AI Resources.
With these bold initiatives, India is not just participating in the global AI race; it is aiming to lead it with a vision that is uniquely Indian-inclusive, equitable, and for the good of all.
