India's Akash Prime successfully Tested on The High Altitudes in Ladakh!

India marks a monumental defence achievement as the upgraded Akash Prime missile system successfully neutralises high-speed aerial targets in Ladakh's challenging high-altitude terrain, showcasing India's growing self-reliance in advanced defence technology.

Guwahati,Assam – July 17, 2025 – India's indigenous defence capabilities have reached new heights, quite literally! On July 16, 2025, the Indian Army achieved a remarkable feat by successfully demonstrating the prowess of the Akash Prime, an advanced variant of the indigenously developed Akash Weapon System. During trials conducted in the challenging high-altitude environment of Ladakh, the Akash Prime precisely destroyed two high-speed unmanned aerial targets, reaffirming India's growing self-reliance in sophisticated air defence.

This significant milestone underscores the nation's commitment to strengthening its defence infrastructure, particularly in strategically vital high-altitude frontiers. The Akash Prime system, specifically customised to operate effectively above 4,500 metres (over 15,000 feet), incorporates cutting-edge upgrades, including a highly accurate, indigenously developed Radio Frequency (RF) seeker. These enhancements are a direct result of valuable operational feedback from users, highlighting a robust ecosystem for continuous improvement of indigenous weapon systems.

The successful validation trials, carried out as part of the 'First of Production Model' firing, involved the collaborative efforts of the Army Air Defence, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), and key Defence Public Sector Undertakings like Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), alongside other crucial industry partners. This collective success is set to pave the way for the timely induction of the Akash Prime, significantly bolstering India's air defence potential in challenging terrains.

This achievement carries even greater weight, coming on the heels of the exceptional performance of India's indigenous air defence systems during the recent 'Operation Sindoor'. That operation saw India's air defence effectively thwart multiple retaliatory aerial threats, demonstrating the reliability and effectiveness of homegrown technology on the battlefield. The latest success with Akash Prime further solidifies India's position as a burgeoning force in global missile development, drawing increasing international attention to its defence manufacturing prowess.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh extended his hearty congratulations to the Indian Army, DRDO, and the entire defence industry for this commendable accomplishment. He emphasised that this success provides a substantial boost to India's overall air defence capabilities, especially in meeting the rigorous demands of high-altitude operational requirements.

Echoing the sentiment, Dr. Samir V Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, lauded the dedicated teams behind this successful test, stating that the Akash Prime missile has perfectly met the nation's critical high-altitude air defence needs.

This latest triumph with the Akash Prime missile system is a powerful testament to the 'Make in India' initiative in the defence sector, showcasing India's capability to design, develop, and produce world-class defence solutions for its security and potential export to global partners.(source-pib)
