Mission 2036: PM Modi Ignites India’s Olympic Dream with ‘Full Strength’ Preparation

Summary: PM Narendra Modi has officially launched India's "full strength" campaign for the 2036 Olympics. With Ahmedabad set to host the 2030 CWG and the new National Sports Governance Act in force, India is building a transparent, world-class ecosystem for athletes.
The announcement came during the high-octane inauguration of the 72nd Senior National Volleyball Championship in Varanasi. Addressing over 1,000 athletes from 58 teams across the country via video conference, the Prime Minister framed the Olympic bid not just as a sporting event, but as a symbol of a "New India" riding on the Reform Express.
The Blueprint: From Ahmedabad 2030 to 2036
The roadmap to the Olympics is already in motion. PM Modi confirmed that the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games (CWG), recently ratified for Ahmedabad, will serve as the ultimate "dress rehearsal" for the 2036 Olympics.
Strategic Pillars for Success:
- The 'Twin-City' Vision:Bidding involves a massive development plan for the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar corridor, including the world-class Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave.
- Legislative Muscle: The National Sports Governance Act 2025, which came into effect on January 1, 2026, has introduced the National Sports Board and a Tribunal to ensure transparency and athlete-first administration.
- Khelo Bharat Policy 2025: A fresh ₹3,794 crore allocation aimed at integrating sports into the National Education Policy (NEP) and creating a "single-window" talent identification system.
"Volleyball teaches us that no victory is achieved alone. Our success depends on our coordination and trust. Our country is progressing in the same way," PM Modi remarked, drawing parallels between teamwork on the court and national development.
Varanasi: A Rising Star on India’s Sporting Map
The Prime Minister expressed immense pride in Varanasi's transformation. By hosting the National Volleyball Championship from January 4 to 11, the city has cemented its place as a major hub for athletic development.
In a significant development, an MoU was signed during the event between the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the UP Sports Directorate to operate a National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) in the city, providing local talent with Olympic-grade scientific training and nutrition.
A Legacy of 20+ Global Events
Refuting the "indifference of the past," the PM highlighted India’s proven track record over the last decade:
- FIFA U-17 World Cup(A game-changer for football)
- Hockey World Cup (Hosted with record-breaking success)
- Major International Chess Tournaments (Catalyzing the 'Grandmaster' boom)
PM Modi asserted that the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) has shifted the focus from mere participation to podium finishes, creating an "athlete-centric" ecosystem that the 2036 Games will eventually crown.
